Center for Driver's License Recovery and Employability

Posted on 4/24/07

Description
This community resource is the first of its kind in Milwaukee County to assist low income residents on a referral basis only in recovering their driver’s licenses, eliminating a major barrier to employment.

The Center for Driver's License Recovery and Employability is a comprehensive collaborative effort to reduce the numbers of unlicensed drivers in Milwaukee County through the establishment and operation of a community-wide driver's license recovery and employability resource center in Milwaukee.

Process
1) A triage intake unit decides if the case is easy, needs support, or is too difficult to resolve;
2) Case manager support and community service supervision keep clients on track;
3) Legal assistance is available for those who cannot succeed without legal help; and
4) Indigence fund is available to some to help very poor individuals take the last step to recovering their licenses.

Training/Program Schedule:
Year-round, intakes by referral only. For more information on how to obtain a referral, please contact Nichole Yunk at the contact information below.

Eligibility
Clients must:
1) be a Milwaukee County resident;
2) have his or her right to a Wisconsin Driver’s License currently suspended OR revoked;
3) have no pending Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) offenses; and
4) live at 200 percent of poverty or below (see federal guidelines).

Cost
Free through referral process; “fee for service” contracts also available for interested entities.
